Crazy Theories

Great weekend progress for Gotryiton!

We held our second focus group (thanks to Stacy Ruderman) and got a few more women signed up for our pre-alpha experience!
Some key learnings:

1. Younger demographics may be the sweet spot for the site (did anyone else see the NYT style section front page?! Not that young...)
2. What if there were Brand groups on GTIO? So you can be reviewed by Your friends, The Public and/or a Brand (ie: JCrew, LF, Theory)...etc... Would be a way for brands to engage socially with customers and users could really benefit from these expert opinions!

Also had a few weekend users from focus group 1. Experience was somewhat clunky but we got some good learnings!

We also got a web demo as a starting point. We are working towards next week to have a full set of requirements ready to go in order to start building our beta experience!

Looking ahead for the week:
I'm hoping to attend New York's fashion/tech meetup this Tuesday! Should be a good spot to mingle ...and listen to any chatter about social retailing.

Why a Personalized Recommendation is Necessary

A Double Whammy The quiet twin set, a British classic, packs a one-two punch.
“O.K., so it’s a classic. Some would call it, like the tuxedo jacket or the little black dress, one of fashion’s most iconic pieces. It came to light in the 1940s when, because of the war and burgeoning modern life, items like the floor-length tea gown became less of an option. But it was in the ’50s that the twin set met its moment. Think of any movie or TV show set back then. Did every woman really, truly wear it every day? I find it hard to believe because here’s the truth: yeah, they work if you’re Grace Kelly or January Jones. If your shoulders are narrow and your waist even smaller and you have the sort of radiant beauty that transforms something inherently plain into the epitome of chic. (Tilda Swinton, check! Dame Judi Dench, check! The Duchess of Devonshire, check!) But if you’re a mere mortal like me, wearing a cardigan over a matching short-sleeve sweater risks making you looking like an elderly aunt from the pages of P. G. Wodehouse. Which makes me all the more envious of all those utterly unflappable, self-confident beauties, who don a twin set (like the Pringle of Scotland one at left) and look implacably terrific.””

Focus Group1

Hello all!

In very exciting news, we held our first focus group last night. Six women joined the GoTryitOn team and offered themselves up for a beta testing of the concept.

We got some great feedback and insights into what could work, who the target audience should be and how to keep the community safe.

Thanks to Lila for thinking of expanding the network to HS women in NYC

Ashley proposed holding our third focus group with recent college grads, also NYC women. She will do a little recon this coming Friday.

Ali had a great insight into the reality of how people our age use their mobile phones...In reality, many devices are issued by work, and we need to provide a way for people to upload images via a digital camera (if all else fails) ...Also, she noticed that the digital camera flashes in the mirror, so we need to remind folks to "Turn flash off" if using the camera in the dressing room!

Shelia gave great input about functionality of the site: She said that people should be able to select who they review, who reviews them etc... All searchable by demographics, gender and city location.

Bindu hit on a key to success: Ad revenue really may NOT be the way to go for this business... She brought up the fact that our growth strategy should focus on partnership opportunities with bigger players in the retail space. I love this insight. I believe this will be our key to growth.

Ana had to sneak out early, but I'm confident she will have some great pieces of advice to share!

thanks again ladies!!

Focus Group 2, Sunday, 10/25, 4pm, NYC.
